Converting chillers from R22 to R411B in this plastics factory has been the most effective energy-saving measure in a continuing energy initiative.

Among energy-saving opportunities identified by the Parasense Smart E monitoring system in a plastics factory was a change of refrigerant in chillers.

Kayserserg Plastics in Gloucester makes twin-wall polypropylene sheet.

The refrigerant in one chiller was changed from R22 to R411B. Following positive results, all chillers were converted.

Energy consumption in a number of key electrical circuits was monitored, and project engineer Nick Hitchcroft says, ‘Since starting our energy-efficiency initiative in 2001, this project has yielded the largest savings and the shortest payback. The Smart E energy monitor has been central to that effort.’
