The original concept was for open-plan offices, but a number of cellular offices came into being after the original design had been completed.
Over 500 recessed passive beams are used throughout the building, which has a 5-storey wing linked to an 8-story wing. The beams are in five lengths from 1.5 to 4 m and were supplied in a series of eight carefully staggered deliveries.
The beams are above a false suspended ceiling on each floor. They have a metal case surrounding the cooling coil, with a flexible skirt on the bottom that provides a chimney-stack effect to force cooled air downwards into the office space below.
Trox also supplied grilles and diffusers.
The beams were specified by M&E Contractor Balfour Kilpatrick of Newcastle.
