The first phase will be the installation of a new plant room to serve the entire station.
Work will then start on a new western concourse, three times the size of the present concourse. It will include shops and restaurants and improved access to services on the Underground, the Thameslink station and domestic and international services at the adjacent St Pancras International station.
The third stage will be the refurbishment of the ‘western range’ office block, a Grade 1 listed building, as a home to 150 station employees.
The final part of the project is a site-wide customer information, security and communication installation, which includes CCTV cameras, customer information screens and customer help points.
Tim Cunningham, operations director for NG Bailey in London, says, ‘We are delighted to be working on one of London’s largest schemes. The redevelopment of the station is one of Network Rail’s most prestigious projects and one that we are proud to be part of.’
