The Cylon BEMS was installed by system integrator Astral Control Services and is also maintained by this company. Director Alan Jones says, ‘The Cylon BEMS offers the local authority added benefits by allowing each school to use the BEMS as an educational tool on projects such as renewable energies while having web-based remote access with no extra capital costs.’
The embedded Weblink makes information on building management available to the facilities manager and to pupils from any PC via a web browser in these schools.
A renewable-energy menu includes a description of how the solar PV panels, solar water heating and wind turbines work. The system displays the wind speed and how much electricity the wind turbines and solar panels have generated. It also shows the total reduction in carbon emissions the use of renewable energy sources has achieved.
