Raychem provides a simple, intelligent and energy-efficient method of ensuring that hot water is instantly available at every tap in a single-pipe system, including those on dead legs. Electric trace heating on the pipework maintains the water at a constant 55°C without the need for secondary recirculation plumbing.
This approach to maintaining temperature is said to be significantly more energy efficient than conventional recirculation systems and, by eliminating return pipework, also offers savings in space, material and installation time and cost.
Jointing Technologies South West, a distributor partner for Tyco Thermal Control, which makes the Raychem system, supplied and installed over 8 km of trace cables for Hartcliffe Education Centre, Brislington Enterprise College, Bristol Brunel Academy and Whitefield Fishponds Community School.
Paul Manning, an M&E project manager with Skanska, comments, ‘We have installed new thick-wall plastic pipes rather than copper for hot-water services and were delighted that the HWAT system proved highly effective on these. It enables us to take advantage of the benefits offered by a single-pipe system.’
