The need for a new boiler arose when the previous boiler serving Goring-on-Thames Free Church in Oxfordshire was condemned during its annual gas-safety check
Its replacement, installed by CMC Boiler Services, is an ecoMAX combination boiler. The company’s Ken Chandler tells us, ‘We generally use Vaillant boilers now, ever since the Building Regulations changed to insist on condensing boilers. It was a straightforward decision to specify an ecoMAX boiler.
‘We faced an installation challenge in that the central-heating system at the church is an older system with cast-iron radiators that are at least 50 years old. Because of their age, they are starting to show signs of water damage, so we had to make sure that the system pressure from the new high-efficiency boiler did not cause any damage to them and the pipes, while the debris inside the system did not damage the boiler. The system was too fragile to flush. Our solution was to use a heat exchanger between the boiler and the system, which solved both challenges simultaneously.’
