The Krantz beams provide both heating and cooling and were designed and made by SAS International. They have a bespoke wing profile that integrates luminaires to match the architect’s modern concept for the ceiling fitout.
The installation of these beams in the upper levels of the building, where an academic ‘hotel’ has been created, provides a flexible solution for the thermal comfort of occupants.
Active chilled beams have been installed in 75 cellular offices, with local control provided by a thermostat on the wall.
Six open-plan central areas have wall-mounted thermostats to control up to six chilled beams.
Located in the heart of central London, the Strand Building is an iconic 1970s Brutalist concrete structure and forms part of the Strand Campus of King’s College. The refurbishment proposals called for a sustainable solution that would complement the existing structure and includes measures such as solar shading.
