The 10 m3 Raurain rainwater recovery system provides cooling water for
the manufacture of polymer on the site.
The Rausikko storm-water management system reduces the risk of flooding by allowing rainfall surges to soak into the ground via a honeycomb structured flow-control system. 80 boxes were installed in the ground at depths from 0.8 to 3 m during construction work on the expanded factory, sufficient to eliminate the problems of surface water on the site and flooding from a nearby stream. They are specifically designed to avoid the problem of silting up.
Tim Miller, business unit manager at Rehau, says, ‘As the UK faces up to new extremes in our weather patterns, we have to focus on ways to routinely manage our rainfall rather than responding only when it becomes an emergency.’
