Whiston will be redeveloped to provide 800 in-patient beds and a full range of clinical and non-clinical facilities. St Helens will be redeveloped as a diagnostics and treatment centre, with provision of intermediate-care beds. Newton will be redeveloped with 30 intermediate-care beds and the re-provision of imaging and physiotherapy.
The new facilities will occupy about 100 000 m2. Both the St Helens & Knowsley and New Hospitals have agreed that the design supply chain will adopt ICT-enabled collaborative working procedures. The team is already experienced with ICT-enabled working using the 4Projects extranet to share information, but will require training to use the ICT collaborative tools and processes for more effective use of 2D and 3D CAD and object modelling in a common-data environment.
Paul Harris, Taylor Woodrow’s construction director for the project, says, ‘The support of the Avanti will contribute towards reducing waste, cost and time through co-ordinated design and design processes. Processes for collaborative working will be employed from design concept feasibility through detailed design, construction and onto facilities management.’
