Conference considers the issues of green engineering
Published:  March 2008

The CIBSE/ASHRAE 2008 conference in Newcastle next month will tackle the major issues and burning topics that managers, clients, architects and planners all face in the challenge to produce green buildings.

John Armstrong, President of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, says, ‘The industry and the public want green buildings, and they want them now. But in order to tackle this challenge, the industry needs answers to questions such as how to provide realistic estimates of the contribution of wind turbines. How do you provide valid but compelling cost benefit analysis of low- and zero-carbon strategies? How do you find the staff with the skills to deliver?’’

During the conference at Newcastle Gateshead on 29 and 30 April, Kent Peterson, president of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air-conditioning engineers, will give a comprehensive review of the US approach and the lessons we can learn.

Other key speakers include Jane Carlsen, principal planner for the Greater London Authority and Simon Harris, director of cost consultancy at Cyril Sweett. Dan Epstein, head of sustainable development at the Olympic delivery authority, will present a case study on innovating, delivering and learning lessons at the Olympics.
