Honeywell integrator maximises scope of building control systems at RAF base
Published:  August 2007

Following the installation of a Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI), RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire can strengthen the control of its site-wide building-automation system to increase energy savings.

This vast complex has hundreds of scattered buildings, including offices, fire station, air-traffic control, hangars, flight simulators, housing blocks and facilities for drying parachutes. HVAC services are monitored and controlled by a site-wide network.

Chris Hill, the station’s, energy manager, says, ‘Honeywell Building Solutions has provided us with a front end that enables us to get the most our of our building-control systems. Because of the nature of an RAF base, the buildings on the site are widespread and disparate. The EBI means we maintain high levels of monitoring and high degrees of control across all of our facilities and can make the entire building-automation system work smarter and harder.’

Among the services provided by the EBI is accurate, up-to-the-minute management information, so opportunities for saving energy are easy to identify and exploit.

Alarm management spotlights minor issues before they become major problems, saving time and cost. The EBI is also used to plan preventive maintenance, maximising uptime.
