is the national standard for the sustainable design and construction of homes introduced by the Government in December 2006 and is aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions from homes in the UK.
Because of the predicted shortfall in housing, the building of new homes is set to increase by up to 23% over the next 20 years, providing the opportunity to reduce energy use and water consumption.
Ian Parry, business-development manager with Mitsubishi Electric, explains, ‘At present, the code is voluntary, but it looks set to become mandatory by April 2008.”
The code uses a rating system of one to six stars, with a one-star home being above the standard of the current Building Regulations.
