Industry bodies co-operate to improve health and safety on site
Published:  March 2007

In the run-up to the introduction of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007, the Construction Confederation and the Specialist Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group have signed a statement of intent to work together to further improve health and safety on site.

These two bodies will co-operate to implement priority health-and-safety initiatives and to secure the adoption by contractors and clients in the public and private sectors of ‘core criteria’ for assessing the competence of contractors.

Trevor Hursthouse, chairman of SEC Group, sees the initiative as marking a new phase in collaborative working for a safer and healthier construction industry.

Specific joint initiatives will target slips, trips and falls on site and practical support for the Health & Safety Executive’s Occupational Health Risk Management Model.
