John Graham, director of construction with Travelodge, explains, ‘When I learnt of WaterMATIC’s revolutionary product and understood the potential environmental and consequent cost benefits for Travelodge, I was keen to trial it.
‘We are trialling Kal-Guard+ for six months and closely monitoring its progress in comparison to the previous water softener. If we record a noticeable reduction in scale, Travelodge will consider installing units across our network of hotels.’
This electrolytic scale inhibitor incorporates controls to match the level of treatment to suit the hardness of the water and has been shown to reduce limescale formation on heating surfaces by up to 80% in independent testing at Cranfield University.
It is widely known in the water-treatment industry that just 1 mm of limescale reduces a boiler’s efficiency by 7.5%. A 12 mm layer increases heating costs by 70%. Travelodge operates 283 hotels in the UK, with around a thousand water heaters to run and maintain.’
