This Purfleet company is known the world over and the UK’s leading reseller of vintage and decommissioned London buses. Its yard is packed with rows of red double-decker buses.
Ensign Buses took over a former paper mill in 2005 and converted it into a bus depot, storage area and workshop. An integrated MOT test lane runs through it.
The building presents an exceptionally large space to heat, and the roof is high to accommodate double-decker buses.
Consulting engineers John Dunton Associates of Chelmsford designed the system with Reznor. Six UDSA 085 warm-air heaters are installed around the premises., supplemented by two Maximisor 9000 air-recirculation fans and six EnergyMizor MkIII control panels.
The wall-mounted heaters are oriented to discharge warm air co-operatively to create a cyclonic air-distribution effect. Warm air is distributed evenly around the building and in the aisles between the buses in maintenance bays.
Additional economies are gained by turning off the heaters when the doors are opened.
The system runs on LPG since natural gas is not available at the site.
