BCEMA name change moves with the times
Published:  August 2004

Reflecting the growing interest of boiler manufacturers in other heating technologies such as CHP, fuel cells and solar, BCEMA [British Combustion Equipment Manufacturers’ Association] has changed its name to ICOM Energy Association [Industrial & Commercial Energy Association].

Peter McCree is director and chief executive. He says, ‘Today’s heating industry is facing a number of important issues and challenges. Our new name and vision for the future provides a platform from where we will be addressing these topics and ultimately achieving our goals.’

One of his concerns is that manufacturers are given adequate time to enable them to research and develop products to meet new legislation from the EU. Peter McCree says, ‘Products need to be tested and tried before they are produced and finally enter the distribution and supply chain. Unfortunately, governments and those charged with creating legislation do not understand or appreciate the kind of lead times required by manufacturers to properly achieve this.’

The new association is also keen to involve itself in the promotion of recruitment and training within the industry.
