Materials-handling specialist Vanderlande Industries specified Lapp cables, cable glands and accessories for 30 km of walkways and conveyors, amounting to over 100 km of control and power cables.
Lapp has also won the complete containment supply contract for the baggage-handling systems and is responsible for co-ordinating the supply of all electrical components for the conveyor systems and power distribution between the new terminal and satellite buildings. A dedicated team co-ordinates orders and deliveries and liaises with electrical sub-contractors on site.
Vanderlande specified Lapp products after tests for durability and fire safety on prototype sections of the specially designed conveyors. Cables had to be flame resistant, low-smoke, halogen-free and suitable for medium-mechanical-stress applications.
Flexible control cables from the Ölflex range are being used in the conveyor systems. Cables for the field-bus systems include Unitronic Bus ASI (actuator sensor interface), a halogen-free cable enabling high-speed data and power transmission and tested to five million bending cycles.
The contract has also tested Lapp’s design and manufacturing expertise with the requirement for non-standard cabling for power distribution in tunnels between terminal buildings.
