Underfloor heating is logical solution for new community building in County Durham

The benefits of underfloor heating are exploited in this dual-role building in County Durham with two Even-Heat Systems

Underfloor heating installed in a dual-purpose community centre in County Durham as a safe and economic alternative to LST (low-surface) radiators.

Grange Villa is a new single-storey building housing a community centre and the local Sure Start unit. Sure Start is a Government initiative to increase childcare provision for all children while providing special support for young parents.

Separate Even-Heat heating systems were specified for the units by Taylor Design Partnership of Gateshead.

Richard Taylor explains, ‘Underfloor heating was a logical choice. The two facilities have quite distinct requirements. The Sure Start Centre has a crèche and a day-care nursery, which needed special consideration to ensure compete safety.’

Although Sure Start and the community centre share an entrance foyer, other parts of the building have widely varying usage patters, so it made economic sense to arrange the heating as two systems with independent boilers.

Even-Heat underfloor heating is a natural partner for condensing boilers. Low return temperatures enable boilers to be run in condensing mode virtually all the time.
