Cooling a 35 kW server cabinet
Published:  January 2006

Blade servers with a power consumption of 35 kW can be housed in this Knurr CoolTherm water-cooled enclosure.

The latest version of Knurr’s CoolTherm water-cooled server cabinet for computer rooms has a cooling capacity of 35 kW. This enclosure for blade servers has a capacity of 50U.

CoolTherm units are served by chilled water at a flow temperature of 12°C and return of 22°C. It is said that computer-room air conditioning (CRAC) for 35 kW of server load with a cold-side air-inlet temperature of 25°C would have an outlet temperature from the server of 50°C.

Because more equipment can be put into a CoolTherm cabinet than an air-cooled cabinet, 85% fewer cabinets are required in a large server-cluster data centre. The reduction in overall operating costs for a computer room and its CRAC is put at 45% less.
