SolarPV for major speculative project

Photon Energy has installed a solarPV system for one of the largest speculative office developments in the Thames Valley — 1 Forbury Place, Reading. It comprises 292 Upsolar 250 W modules to give a maximum power output of 73 kW. The project annual carbon saving is over 26 000 t. Five Huawei inverters convert the DC power from the solar panels into AC.

The installation is unusual in that three different types of mounting system were needed to ensure the energy requirement was met. A ballasted mounting system was used for the 46 modules on the flat roof. Two trapezoidal roof-mounting systems, each housing 20 modules, were use on the roofs of the switch room and stair core. The remaining 206 modules are vertically mounted on the south, east and west facades to screen rooftop plant.
