The specification and commissioning of the emergency lighting for this multi-functional building is the responsibility of senior building-services engineer Michael Lem. He explains, ‘FasteLink has simplified fault finding, as it automatically reports any anomaly immediately to a chosen end-user point. Because the test procedures, such as the weekly function tests and the monthly deep-discharge battery test, are fully automatic, we can run a very proactive and efficient maintenance operation to suit the timetable within the centre.’
The system is failsafe. If there is a computer failure, the system defaults to each luminaire performing its own test in excess of BS 5266 and automatically reporting any faults to the central PC on re-connection.
The system is set to agreed customer parameters, with agreed text entries identifying the location of each luminaire input by P4. Once a system is in place, P4 carries out a thorough staff-training programme for everyone who needs to operate or understand the process of inspecting emergency lighting.
