The £1.2 million M&E contract to fit-out these new research facilities was completed by the Docklands’ office of Inviron.
The work forms part of a larger contract for main contractor Crispin & Borst that includes an additional floor and extensions to an existing 3-storey building in the Whitechapel area of East London. The scope of Inviron’s work was a full M&E installation, including IT and public-health facilities.
The prefabricated plant room was transported to the East London site and lifted into position by mobile crane. The plant room was carefully hoisted onto its roof-top mounting and aligned with electrical, ductwork and pipework risers, while ensuring that all services aligned correctly with those in the risers.
Inviron’s project manager Barry Page comments, ‘The project has been most challenging, with strict climate-control requirements laid down for the research laboratories. The installation of the modular plant room was also a demanding exercise, with close liaison, discipline and high standards of technical accuracy required from the relevant parties.’
Consulting engineers were WSP.
