TM Retail was looking to modernise and called in refurbishment specialist Gifford Grant of Fleet, which approached Pyramid Environmental Services.
Pyramid worked with MCP Consulting of develop the proposal for a heat-recovery system with ducted fan-coil units to provide flexibility to cope with changing occupancy.
13 City Multi R2 condensing units provide climate control for all four floors, with two Mr Slim split systems serving the first-floor communications room.
Keith Chapman, commercial director of Pyramid, says, ‘One of the biggest challenges we faced was trying to install sufficient cooling in this floor, as this is an open-plan area for 130 people, and each of these has a trading desk with five computers.
‘We knew the equipment would cope with the loads, but with such a dense occupancy of both people and computer equipment, there was a mass of ductwork and piping to install in a fairly shallow ceiling space.
The three R2 units that serve the ground floor are in the basement car park, with the remainder of the outdoor equipment installed on the roof, and fresh air is provided by Mitsubishi Electric Lossnay units, which recover heat from outgoing air to help reduce energy consumption..
