To bring the commercial sector into line with changes to the domestic market, the Government is proposing to make condensing boilers obligatory for all new build and replacement work from January 2006. |
The challenge facing the commercial-boiler industry
Published: January 2005
PAUL MASSEY is concerned that the commercial-boiler industry is being called on to convert to condensing-only technology too quickly and that the existing Part L2 consultation document overlooks vital issues.
|
|
One of the most important elements for effective control of multiple-boiler systems is good design of the hydraulic system. A separate constant-flow primary circuit is generally recommended for modern boiler systems. Depending on the application, temperature compensation can be used on the secondary circuits, or directly on the primary circuit, to maximise condensing performance. |
All change for reduced emissions
Published: January 2005
The key to reducing carbon emissions from boiler plant is efficient boilers in well designed systems. STEVE HILLS explores the issues in the context of the revised Part L of the Building Regulations.
|

Modern boilers have a very low water content, making them very vulnerable to accumulated deposits causing boiler failure. The 100 kW version of MHS Boiler’s UltraMax WM range contains just 10.3 litres of water. The benefits, however, include an efficiency in excess of 109.5%, NOx emissions of less than 34 mg/kWh and a matched modulating premix burner with a turndown ratio of 5:1. Up to eight UltraMax WM boilers can be linked using the KKM boiler cascade manager. |

Making off-site production work
Published: January 2005
While the factory end of off-site production (prefabrication) is a smooth processes, there are many on-site issues to be considered. MARCUS DICKS explains.

There are very few building projects that could not benefit from some elements of prefabrication, such as packaged plant rooms to skid mounted assemblies such as pumps and pipework. |
