Mitsubishi Electric has published a brochure looking at sustainable-energy solutions. It highlights the tremendous benefits of air conditioning based on heat pumps over traditional forms of heating and cooling.

According to the company, tests have shown that a heat pump will produce 57% lower carbon emissions compared to a gas-fired boiler and reduce running costs by 34%. Used in conventional mode, the same equipment also provides cooling in the summer.

The brochure describes renewable and sustainable ways of introducing or upgrading air conditioning based on ground-source heat pumps (which are on the Government’s Renewable Energy List), mixed-mode systems that combine natural ventilation with air conditioning) and heat-pump boilers, which link air conditioning with underfloor heating and domestic hot water.

An approach to preventing the growth of legionella bacteria in all types of water system from Tour & Andersson is based on UV-C lamps in a titanium casing. The UV-C light passes through the water and, in combination with the titanium casing, which contains titanium dioxide, results in the generation of hydroxyl radicals from the water molecules. These hydroxyl radicals seek out other molecules and oxidise and kill them.
