Keston moves into heat pumps

Keston has entered the air-source heat-pump market with the introduction of Airgen, designed specifically for UK applications. Hot water is produced at up to 65°C without the need for a supporting immersion heater. Hot water for radiators and underfloor heating systems can be supplied at temperatures from 35 to 55°C. ‘There are three models with outputs of 4.5, 9 and 12 kW. The two larger units can be banked for light-commercial applications. To optimise efficiency, all units have dual-temperature operation. Larger units have twin scroll compressors to further maximise efficiency. ‘At temperatures below 0°C, a high-efficiency condensing boiler is cheaper to operate, so Airgen is available as part of a bivalent heating pack, including the 97% efficient Qudos 28S which is purpose built to interlock with a renewable-energy source. Airgen provides heating for 85% of the time, with the boiler making up the balance on colder days. ‘R134a is the refrigerant.
